A Ring engraved in memory of Charles Underwood?

I have an amethyst and diamond old gold ring engraved on the inside it says in memory of Charles Underwood. According to my grandfather there was only 2 of these rings ever made. I was wondering whether anyone had any information on this ring.

Was he royalty??? If not, then no one here is likely to have an answer. I, personally, have never heard of him, which makes me ask...I have some familiarity with a lot of the names, though I could have missed him.
