Lhasa, China is not the idea of a worldwide holiday destination in Lhasa, but remains one of the most remote, seemingly mysterious and even romantic places on earth. Once completely inaccessible it is still not easy to get, and then when it does, not the question of where to find a good hotel in Lhasa.
The House of Shambhala could be the perfect answer, and while it may be the perfect example of a luxury boutique hotel, however, by anyone's standards, is an exclusive Boutique hotel was recently opened in Lhasa, Tibet, now, of course, China. It is certainly far preferable to the faceless Chinese hotels are located in Lhasa.
The House of Shambhala is quite unlike anything most people have seen in terms of whether you are a hotel.
It is located in the area Barkhor in the historic heart of old Lhasa, and it seems that as you walk through the street. In fact, you wonder if your guide has brought you to the right place passing a row of prayer wheels, and suddenly you're in a traditional Tibetan Lhasa House, which obviously has been restored, and became a true hotel funky boutique
The House of Shambalha is the kind of house where a man who has lived, and is three stories high, built around a courtyard with prayer wheels and sanctuary in the lobby.
There are 10 rooms and each one is different from the other in size and design, painted in gold, saffron, red, or cinnamon, and fill of hand-painted with antiques, chairs of meditation, yoga mats, furry white rugs and exquisite Buddhist paintings. Everything has a real kind of medieval appearance the same, with stone walls and wooden floors. The pillows and the screens have the eyes of Buddha and all the nooks and crannies that have yak butter lamps cast shadows and emphasizing the Middle Ages to feel the place.
The beds are raised on a platform of Chinese style, which is only going to insist on the traditional environment all over the place.
The bathrooms have showers, bathrooms with stone walls, heat lamps are required and fragrant soaps Tibetan.
If you can, book upstairs room, because it gets more sun, or, alternatively, if you want privacy, there are two rooms that make up your own backyard, with its own separate staircase.
The view from the roof of the House of Shambhala, local, sipping cocktails and see some local dancers is quite impressive, and it is only one thing that make this a unique luxury boutique hotel. The second assumption is the position straddling a lane deep in old Tibet, Lhasa.
Unexpectedly the rooms are warm even with snow on the ground, and there is unlimited hot water.
The restaurant has good food, a mixture of Indian, Tibetan, Chinese and Eastern with tikka quite impressive. Surprisingly, yak meat is delicious and well worth trying.
The spa next door has a wonderful soaking tub, and you can have an excellent massage to round of a day wandering around Lhasa.
His staff is friendly and very willing, although their understanding of English is not perfect, but This is Lhasa, after all!
If Lhasa, Tibet, China, is a place to go, then the House of Shambhala is the best place to stay, very comfortable and very well situated to see old Lhasa.
