To Have and Have Not~Lauren Bacall's film debut, during which she and Humphrey Bogart fell in love~very obviously!
A Midsummer Night's Dream (1935)~Can you picture James Cagney doing Shakespeare or a very young Mickey Rooney as Puck? This is an amazing movie, with scenes so gorgeous I always wish that I could have seen it in a movie theater.
The films of Val Lewton: Cat People (1942), The Curse of the Cat People, The Leopard Man, The Seventh Victim, Bedlam, Isle of the Dead, The Body Snatcher (1945) (It has nothing to do with the sci fi films.)
Universal's monster movies are enjoyable: Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, Son of Frankenstein, The Mummy (1932), The Wolf Man, The Invisible Man, Dracula (with Bela Lugosi, of course), and the film series each spawned.
NOTE: "The Bad Seed" is an excellent suggestion! It still manages to be unnerving, with an excellent performance by Patty McCormack. I also agree about William Powell, as he is one of my all-time favorite actors.
Born in 1951, I have loved films throughout my life~those that came out during my lifetime and those released decades before I was born. I'm so happy that Ted Turner could show people how amazing b&w films are!
