A Brief History of Plymouth

The evidence of settlements around the Plymouth area dates back to Saxon times, the first record of a solution is in the back that shows a Sudtone Doomsday, or a farm south at the mouth of the river Plym 1086.The first recorded use of the name of Plymouth is 1383, before Plymouth was simply known as Sutton, Sutton, which simply means South Town, describing its position in South West Devon.
