A few questions on beginning to jump my 4 year old thoroughbred...?
Okay I have my 4 year old thoroughbred gelding, Cupid. He is extremely fast and I'm just now getting a hold of him and controlling him a lot better. Now that I have his speed and transitions down, I want to start him with jumping. I've had him over PLENTY of caveletti and lope-overs and stuff and I want to start getting him jumping higher. But, my riding instructor is mainly western and won't let me or my friends jump. No clue why but she is set on not letting us yet. I jumped him about 7 inches today when she wasn't around and he cleared it with NO hassle whatsoever. Any ideas of how to get my instructor to let us jump? I've been trained for about 2 years then moved and had to start western. Any suggestions or help at all will be GREATLY appreciated! (:
Well, the reason for your instructor not letting you jump could lie with the horse. He may not be developed enough bone structure/joint/tendon wise in his legs, and it may not be safe for him to jump yet. I would go with your instructor, for the safety of both the horse and you. You have to remember that your instructor has many more years experience in this field than you do, and she probably has a good reason for not letting you jump yet.

The U.S. Triple Crown Thoroughbred Racing may not mean much to race fans in Britain or Europe at this time, but with the growth and coverage International television Racing, the coveted 'Triple Crown' could become so great on this side of the Atlantic, in the U.S., where it dominates the holders of the sports pages of newspapers across the country as the best thoroughbred around go for the glory of the horses.
In Britain, a horse race, the triple crown: the 2000 Guineas, the Derby and St Leger for colts and 1000 Guineas, won the Oaks and St Leger for fillies and was passed by Nijinsky in 1970, giving an idea of how difficult it is to achieve. In States that consists of the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness and the Belmont Stakes, with all three races open to horses 3 years and fillies.
