Denis Law, a Scottish striker

Denis Law, Mi Data and Statistics Soccer Players Legendary

Denis Law (born February 24, 1940) enjoyed a long and successful career as Scottish striker the 1950s and 1970s. Act football career began in the Second Division Huddersfield Town in 1956. After four years at Huddersfield, Manchester City signed him for a transfer fee of £ 55,000, setting a new British record. Law spent a year there before he bought for £ Torino 110,000, this time by establishing a new record for a transfer between an English and an Italian club. Although he played well in Italy, he encountered difficulties to settle there and signed for Manchester United in 1962, the establishment of another share of the British record transfer of £ 115,000.

He is best known for the eleven years he spent at United, where he scored 237 goals in 409 appearances and was nicknamed The King and The Lawman by supporters. He is the only player Scottish history has won the prestigious European Footballer of the year ", so in 1964 and helped his club win the First Division in 1965 and 1967. Law left Manchester United in 1973 and returned to Manchester City for a season, then represented Scotland in the 1974 FIFA World Cup. International law was Scotland a total of 55 times and jointly Scotland aims to international tally to 30 goals record. The law is also the second highest scorer is the United behind Bobby Charlton. Law has a record United to score 46 goals in one season.

In the 1954-55 season, was discovered by Archie Beattie, a browser Huddersfield Town, who invited him to go to trial. When he arrived, the director said: "The guy is a monster. I never saw a football match is less likely prospect - Weak, puny and bespectacled. "However, to the surprise of Law, was signed on 3 April 1955. While I was in Huddersfield, had an operation to correct her strabismus, which greatly enhanced his self-confidence. Huddersfield descent into what was then the Second Division made it easier for the law to get a game, and made his debut on December 24, 1956, only sixteen years old in the 2-0 victory over Notts County. Manchester United manager Matt Busby offered little Huddersfield £ 10,000 to the Act, a substantial amount of money for a player at the time, but the club rejected the offer. He was not chosen to play in Scotland in 1958 Cup FIFA World Cup, but scored on his debut against Wales on 18 October 1958 and quickly established himself as a first choice player. Bill Shankly was manager Huddersfield between 1957 and 1959, and when he left for Liverpool wanted to take Law with him, but Liverpool could not afford at this time.

In March 1960, Law signed by Manchester City for what was then a British record transfer of £ 55,000, while sharing the quota law was "exactly nothing." Despite a first Division, the city had just avoided relegation last season, and he really felt that Huddersfield had the better team at that time. Law debuted on March 19, scoring in a 4-3 defeat against Leeds United. In April 1961, scored two goals in 4-1 win over Aston Villa said that the survival of city in the First Division despite having thought about leaving, I was playing well and in 1961 won an incredible six goals in a law of the FA Cup tie against Luton Town. Unfortunately for him, the game was suspended with twenty minutes left, so his six goals did not count. To make matters worse for him, Luton won the replay 3-1, and the city was removed from the Cup

He played but did not score in the match in Scotland against England on April 15, 1961. Scotland lost the match 9-3, and Law described it as his "black" day. In November, the law represented the Football League in a match against the Italian League, losing 4-2. Although he enjoyed his stay in the city, he wanted to play for a more successful and was sold to Italian club Torino in the summer of 1961. Law was not time in Italy as expected. Another Italian club, Inter Milan, tried to avoid becoming a Torino player as soon as he arrived, saying he had signed a pre-contract agreement with them, but dropped this claim before the season began.

Players in the United Kingdom were not treated well at the moment, and the maximum wage the players has only recently been abolished there, so he was pleasantly surprised to see that training camp was based in a luxury hotel in the Alps. Without But Torino is paid by results to some one end, giving the players bags full of money when the team won, but little or nothing, when they lost. To the Like many British footballers who have gone to play in Italy, the law did not like the style of football and found it difficult to adapt to it. The ultra catenaccio system defense was very popular there at the time, so forward, you have not had many opportunities to score. He continued to play for Scotland while he was in Turin although the club were unwilling to release him for international matches and put a clause in his contract which were not required to do so. On February 7, 1962, was injured in a car accident when his teammate Joe Baker led the wrong way around a roundabout and crashed into the curb, trying to turn around, turn upside down. Baker was killed almost, but injuries were not life threatening law. Law finally signed for United on 10 July 1962 by a British record price £ 115,000.

Law returned to Manchester, pensions, with the same patron he had lived with during his time as a player in the city. His first game for United was against West Bromwich Albion on August 18, 1962, and made an excellent start, scoring after just seven minutes. The match ended in a draw 2-2. However, United had been irregular shape from the Munich air disaster in 1958, and due to its lack of coherence that spent the season fighting relegation. In a league match against Leicester City Law scored a hat trick, but United still lost. They found a way in the FA Cup, however, joined the Law three goals in a 5-0 victory against his former club Huddersfield, and began to reach the final against Leicester City. Leicester were the favorites, finished fourth after in the league, but Law scored the first goal as United won 3-1 in what proved to be the only FA Cup final of his career. He also married his wife Diana that season, the December 11, 1962.

Act received a number of objectives at the beginning of the 1963-64 season and was selected to play for a break from the part of World against England at Wembley, scoring his goal in the 2-1 defeat. He later described this as the greatest honor of his career. His season was interrupted by a suspension 28 days for an expulsion was against Aston Villa. The United unusually cold winter forced to play many of their encounters in a short space of time, and results suffered. Law blamed this afternoon by United for failing to win a trophy this season.
In 1964-65, he won the Footballer of the Year Act, and Manchester United won their first league title since Munich. 28 League goals that season of Law made him the top scorer in the First Division. The following season, injured his knee Law right while playing for Scotland against Poland on October 21, 1965. He had had surgery on the same knee while in Huddersfield, and the injury was a problem for him the rest of his career.

In 1966, Law asked the United manager Matt Busby to give a raise at your next renewal of contract and threatened to leave the club if you do not get one. Busby Act immediately placed the transfer list, announcing that "no player will perform this club to ransom any player. "When the law came to him, Busby took a written apology for him to sign, showing to the press after he had done. Law later claimed that Busby had used the incident to warn other players to do the same, but secretly gave him the raise. Scored in the famous Act Scotland's 3-2 victory over England on April 15, 1967 in the 1967 British Home Championship, less than a year after England had become champions the world. Manchester United won the league in that season, but the law considers that the victory over England was even more satisfying.

In 1968, United won European Cup for the first time, but the knee of the Act was causing serious injury problems and missed both the semifinal and the final result. He was given regular injections cortisone to relieve the pain, but playing while injured knee was still causing long term damage. He visited a specialist in January 1968 he wrote to the ground a previous operation to remove cartilage from his knee had failed and it is recommended that a second operation was performed, but the Act did not shown the report for several years and went on to complete his training.
In 1968-69, United reached the European Cup semi-final, beating AC Milan. United lost the match leg at San Siro 2-0, winning the second leg 1-0 at Old Trafford with a goal from Bobby Charlton. Law put the ball on the line only to see the kick off for a Milan defender. Law claimed a goal but the referee stopped the game and left the United States and globally. Busby, who had been knighted now resigned at the end of the season and United decline began.

After a poor 1970-71 season, Frank O'Farrell took over as coach of United. They made a good start to the 1971-72 season and ended 1971 five points clear at the top of the league, with Law scoring twelve goals. Law Docherty gave a free transfer in the summer 1973 and returned to the city of Manchester. He played in the city a 2-1 defeat in the Cup final against Wolves. In the final game of the city in the 1973-74 season against Manchester United at Old Trafford, back-heeled the Act gave City a 1-0 win, but, thinking that his aim had relegated America, not celebrate it (it turned out would have been relegated, even if the party had developed, but the law did not know this at the time), walking off the court with bowed head as he was replaced immediately thereafter. This game was the last of his career, he retired soon after, not wanting to be limited to reserve team side of the city that brought in younger players. Scotland reached the World Cup final in the summer of 1974, for the first time since 1958. Although he had not played much first team football Last season, the Act was included in the squad and played in his first game against Zaire. He did not score, but Scotland won 2-0. Act was "very disappointed" not to be chosen for the next match against Brazil, and was not chosen for the next game is against Yugoslavia. Although Scotland were not defeated in any games, they did not qualify for the second phase and were out of the World Cup.

Law still had a contract with Manchester City, but his manager told him that Tony Book would only be playing reserve team football if he stayed. I did not want to end his career this way, so he retired from professional football in the summer 1974. Since then, the law has often worked in radio and television summarize and present the games.
