when should i turn on my freshwater aquarium lights for my 10 gallon tank.(only one tone of color)?
I have a 10 gallon tank that has a pleco and 8 cherry barbs(dont worry, there only young and im going to get a 20 gallon in a month or so), so when should i leave the lights on or off. I have no algea problems too. thanks
Truly when you turn it on isn't the biggest problem, how long they're on is. They should be on 7-9 hours max if you don't want algae. The best thing, time wise, would be to just turn them on when you wake up, and turn them off 7-9 hours later. To make your fish feel like its a night and day cycle, you should be turning it on and off, at around the same time each day. There is only one problem. A pleco is not suitable for a 10 gallon, nor a 20 gallon. They need a 50-75 Gallon tank minimum. Your 8 cherry barbs aren't a problem, but you should probably consider giving back the pleco. If you got rid of the pleco, in the 20 gallon, you can add a few more nice little schools.
Good luck, please consider this for the pleco, even if it looks small now. Or invest in a larger tank if you can. Just some extra advice here. Always buy the biggest tank you can afford, it will be easier (believe it or not, it actually will be), and much more fun. Then you could keep the pleco.
