Topaz Mosaic

Semi-precious stones which used for the making of different jewelry pieces would be those that have been worked on by gem cutters and polishers, or who are also known as lapidarists. A lot of these stones appear to be markedly different in the state that they naturally occur, which is relatively rougher, compared to how they look as they used for jewelry and ornaments. The gem cutter’s art, knowledge as well as skill could almost magically transform a simple chunk of rock into beautifully formed and cut gemstones.
Rough gemstones would be assessed by gem cutters first so that the best utilization for the qualities of a certain stone would be determined. There are some stones which could be skillfully broken apart along its naturally occurring fracture lines. When this process is done, it is called cleaving. Topaz and diamond would be two gems which are usually cleaved. This process is basically done so that more rough stones could be created from the main stone as well as to strengthen the stones which are remaining. If they were not cleaved, natural lines that result from cleavage can ultimately ruin the stone.
Various methods and treatments are available to enhance and bring out the natural beauty of gemstones. Those too small gemstone pieces which are too small to work with are tumbled. Stones could also be cut using saws that have been impregnated with diamond, as it is the hardest substance which is naturally occurring. Stones could then be ground, then sanded and then polished into various shapes and finishes. The most common shapes would include Cabochon Stones, Faceted Stones, Beads, Inlays, Mosaics and Intaglios and Cameos.

Andalusite Gemstones
Many varieties are like precious stones, especially for the untrained observer. Given a collection of colored stones of blue light - as topaz, aquamarine, zircon, iolite , apatite and fluorite - even many people in trade in gems that are difficult to identify each variety without the use of some gemological tools.
But there are some gems that have a style All that is hard to confuse with any other gems. Andalusite is a good example. Andalusite has a distinctive combination of colors, and such pronounced pleochroism, which only rarely tourmaline color could never be mistaken for andalusite.
Pleochroic gems seem to have different colors or color depth when viewed from different angles. The effect is caused by differences in absorption of light rays in crystals of double refraction. Among the gems which are strongly pleochroic andalusite, iolite, kyanite, kunzite, sphene and unheated tanzanite. Some gems are said to be pleochroic dichoric - showing two different colors, kunzite is an example. Others trichroic are said to be as andalusite.
Andalusite shows shades of yellow, olive and brown depending on the orientation of the crystal. The effect can pleochroic be increased by targeting and cut. Cuts with a longitudinal axis, such as an oval, pear, marquis or emerald cut tend to show a close color center and a second, usually darker color near the ends. Square and round cuts usually blend the colors into a mosaic.
Andalusite is classified generally regarded as one of the lesser-known gems. transparent material quality of the gemstone is rare, so it is unlikely to find andalusite in your local jewelry. It has been mostly a collector stone, but some jewelry designers have begun to incorporate into their designs.
Andalusite named after the Spanish province of Andalusia, where it was discovered first. Andalusite deposits are also found in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Russia, Sri Lanka and the U.S..
