Hey, so two of my best friends' birthdays are coming up and one of my friends is moving soon :'( but anyways i want something special for the three of us. i have looked all over e bay and amazon but i can't find anything that i need to get. so please help me find either three necklaces or 3 rings please! our birthstones are garnet, ruby, and peridot, if that helps anything. but any colors are fine. thanks!

Peridot is a gemstone with a fascinating history in both nature and culture. It is one of the oldest known gems, with oldest written records documenting the use of olivine as early as 1500 BC C. It is a gem especially related to ancient Egypt, and some historians believe that Cleopatra's famous emerald land. The two exceptions are the peridot and diamonds, which are much deeper in the earth in the mantle. Forms of Peridot in magma in the upper mantle around 20 to 55 kilometers deep, is brought to the surface by tectonic and volcanic activity. Diamond is formed even deeper in the mantle, about 100 to 150 miles below the surface, extreme pressure and temperature.

The main source of peridot in the Ancient World was Topaz the island, now known as Zabargad or St. John Island in the Red Sea in Egypt. The island was discussed on the natural history of Pliny the Elder (23-79 AD), which has been explored in the fourth century BC was probably known Peridot originally as topaz, and only much later did the name come to be applied to the gemstone we now know as the topaz.

Peridot has been mined in Zabargad almost continuously for over 3,500 years. But it is interesting that the exact location of the island was lost for centuries and was only rediscovered in 1905. The small island, often shrouded in fog, is located about 35 miles off the Egyptian port of Beren sack.

Mining ended in Zabargad time of the Second World War. Today there are five main sources of fine peridot. Very beautiful specimens come from Burma, and Pakistan's new material has generated considerable excitement in the world of the gem. Arizona and New Mexico in the U.S. are important peridot producing commercial grade, and Vietnam and China in particular, are the providers are increasingly important.

Peridot was used for the first time a charm in the ancient world and has a long standing reputation mystique. The magical properties of peridot are said to include the power to protect from outside the anxiety, which makes men more articulate and promote success in relationships and marriage.
